One person’s trash is another person’s treasure. This age old adage proved to be especially true for the flyers of Las Cruces, New Mexico. Thanks to the efforts of several local agencies, the Las Cruces community has repurposed what was once a landfill into a brand-new flying field—and the results are beautiful. Construction crews installed two runways, each 100 feet wide by 600 feet long, as well as an adjoining parking lot and other flyer friendly commodities. Members of the Mesilla Valley Airplane Club have expressed their gratitude for the new site, as it improves the overall safety of their flying experience and allows them to finally begin hosting some local events. The field is already being hailed as one of the best in the southwest, and looks to only improve over time. You can learn more about the Mesilla Valley Model Airplane Club by visiting www.mvmac.org.
